Hello there!
Firstly, if you go to your preferences -> Interface there should be this option:
Make sure it is not checked.
Secondly, make sure the topic isn’t muted. If it is it disappeares. Additionally, make sure that the topic is pinned.
If you are the administrator of the site, make sure these settings are un-checked
