Link directly to latest post?

(To The Tick Llc) #1

Is their a URL extension that can best used to send users straight to the latest post?

for example something like…

http://discuss.financialjuice.com/t/ichimoku-kinko-hyo-and-measured-moves-in-the-es/183/latest

DC is so incredibly powerful that we can actually use it for a real time chat room on our site…need a smart way to link to it from the from page of our site so that the user is taken straight to the latest post.

Ideas welcome

Kind of a hack, but you could link to: http://discuss.financialjuice.com/t/ichimoku-kinko-hyo-and-measured-moves-in-the-es/183/9999999

That doesn’t seem to work for me, it just takes me to the post that I last read on that page (not the very latest one.

@zogstrip try clicking the link you sent what URL does it take you to?

I had someone that has never used the site do it…and it took took them to the same page as it did me.

@tothetick Your site is running an old version of Discourse, from about 2 months ago. I tried @zogstrip’s trick on a topic I haven’t read on meta, and it worked. So you should probably upgrade.

Cheers @Neil will investigate

We should probably create a named alias for this @neil and @zogstrip.

Seems like

http://discuss.example.com/t/topic-title/183/last

is preferable to the hack

http://discuss.example.com/t/topic-title/183/9999999

Latest links from the homepage should not use this “last” form since they will not show the correct browser visited link color as a numbered link would. So this ends up being kind of a specialized function, but I don’t see any downside other than obscurity.

This is now implemented.

Just add last to the URL ?

It’s linked from the topic lists as well, if the last post is the correct entry point.
