Links without text make blind user accessibility worse

(Jeff Atwood) #1

As a blind screen reader user, I want to use Discourse to create and join communities.

Under Linux and Orca, I observe the following behavior. It can likely be easily duplicated under Windows and NVDA or OS X and VoiceOver:

  • I visit http://meta.discourse.org.
  • I tab twice. Both links have nicely-spoken text.
  • On the third and several subsequent tabs, I only get “Link” spoken.

It would be helpful if all links had some sort of text value attached so they’d speak when tabbed to.
