I use that component and that is by design - those are simple list types and you have to enter the category-slug then click the ‘+’ to add it. it is so you can leave it blank to show everywhere and use @ for top level.
Kanban board is a bit tricky to set up. Please refer to the component topic for configuration:
it won’t work for that field in the component because admin needs to be able to leave blank or enter ‘@’.
