Mandrill account activation link issue with Safari

(blaumeer) #1

I configured one of my D instances with Mandrill for SMTP.

One of my users received an invitation email, clicked on the link, registered on the site and received the confirmation email containing a link which points to:

http://mandrillapp.com/track/click/1234567890/www.example.com?p=veryLONGKEY

She opened the confirmation email on her Gmail page using Safari on Apple iOS 8.1 (an iPad2) and clicked on the link, ant it failed with a cannot open page error.
Copy&pasting the same link in a new Safari tab gives the same error.
Copy&paste in Chrome on the same iPad works and the account is activated correctly.

Is that some anti-fraud technique in Safari?

Perhaps it is related to the “Track clicks” Mandrill setting in Log in to Mandrill? To be extra sure I have disabled all click tracking now.

Did anybody have the same issue?

The exact Safari version is:
Mozilla/5.0 (iPad; CPU OS 8_1 like Mac OS X) AppleWebKit/600.1.4 (KHTML, like Gecko) Version/8.0 Mobile/12B410 Safari/600.1.4

I don’t think this is related to us at all. I leave that setting on default when I set sites up, but if you see issues (Firefox’s executable email handler, Thunderbird, reports links like this as phishing for no reason) just turn it off in Mandrill.

I disabled tracking in Mandrill and will test it this week if I find time.
