Markdown quote formatting in plain text notifications

Hey guys,

I quoted a longer phrase wihout full-stops when replying to a topic by prepending >.

As I receive all forum contributions per mail and my mail reader prefers plein text, I noticed that full-stops have been added, but that the highlighting of my mail reader requires a > at the beginning of every new line. So far, it looks like this:

The html view looks like this:

How is that a bug? It’s valid Markdown, e.g.

This is a quote
it is a multiple line quote
note that only the first like has a quote mark

> This is a quote

You can enter it with the > in front of each line, and I tend to, but if that’s the way it was entered in the post, then… that’s the way it is.

If Discourse wouldn’t have added line breaks, the whole blockquote would be highlighted as such. Discourse have modified my markdown for the mail view. When my mail application adds line-breaks, it adds > automatically. For me, this is expected behaviour.

However, I also see your point. You just send plein text markdown with line breaks. Still, we could have a compromise if we would add the >. The markdown would be still valid afterwards.
