# Membership expiration date

Hey,
I have a special group which I want users to be accepted to join it, for a specific period of time, e.g. 1 year and they have to renew their membership each year.
How can I implement this?

Can you clarity what you are actually asking for? Do you want to be reminded to manually act on something after a year or do you want the membership to actually renew after a year? If it’s the latter you’ll need to give us more details of how memberships are handled?

It’s a free software community and we have custom badge and title for our developers. We want to manually check if they had been actively developing in the last year or not.

Ah, I see what you’re saying. You need a reminder to manually check each member a year after they join the community so that you can check that they qualify?

Yeah. After requesting to be member, they will be in the group, for a year.

Well I guess you could set a bookmark reminder on their request. It is always going to be a manual process though. There isn’t a way to set a finite term on group membership.
