# Migrate Vanilla Forums 2023 to discourse

From previous experience with hosted Vanilla, you’ll have to reach out to their support team and request a full SQL data dump. Unfortunately, they may charge you certain amount to give you your data.

An SQL dump is the easiest to work with, and we have a [script](https://github.com/discourse/discourse/blob/main/script/import_scripts/vanilla_mysql.rb) to migrate the data into Discourse.

We also have a [script](https://github.com/discourse/discourse/blob/main/script/import_scripts/vanilla.rb) to migrate from a CSV file but it only imports the basics and it hasn’t been tested in a while.
