# Migrating from AWS to Discourse cloud hosting

Hello!
I’m considering starting a Discourse forum but initially I’d like to host myself on AWS to save a couple bucks and then possibly move over to Discourse cloud if it takes off.
Hence I would like to ask whether it would be possible to dump the data from the AWS based forum and reimport it into the instance on the Discourse cloud.
How would this work?

Yes the backups are completely portable and work fine as long as they aren’t renamed.
Just be sure to look at the plugins offered by hosted solutions so that when you come to move over you aren’t backed into a corner.
