Mini Onebox support

I noticed this was raised at howtogeek

The idea is that if you simply have a naked link in the middle of a sentence, like this http://meta.discourse.org/ we perform a certain “onebox” action. At the most rudimentary level it could grab the title of a page and use it as the name, but it could get fancier. We could also inject a tooltip with extra info or format the link name with more interesting rules.

The one caveat is that it makes it more complicated to post bare links cause you would need to do something like [http://meta.discourse.org](http://meta.discourse.org)

Automatically replace forum URLs in posts with topic title
Make post links more visible with new right gutter timeline
Make post links more visible with new right gutter timeline
Hashtags for categories ...and not tags?

I guess that makes sense, as we have to do a lot of background HTTP requests already for images anyway (to get sizes, etc).

We could do a HTTP request to get the <title> tag and use that. Expensive though, since we have to pull the entire article just to get the title, and if the network is slow, etc.

So as long as we’ve put in protection to prevent DDoS’ing us… someone posting a reply with hundreds of links to a website that never responds… would be an improvement.

Is there an easy way to link to categories?

Automatically prettifying Mini Onebox support is planned, it feels more natural and if anyone insists on seeing https://meta.discourse.org/t/mini-onebox-support/5838 cause for some reason they hate Mini Onebox support they can override with an explicit link.

So… planned.

How about 'mentioning topic' feature?
