# Minimum requirements to install discourse

I allow myself to ask for explanation. The set up guide on github says that “1 GB RAM works fine for small Discourse communities”, and suggests to use Digital Ocean services. Now, on Digital Ocean website there are instruction how to install discourse, and they state 2GB as minimum requirements (see [How To Install Discourse | DigitalOcean](https://www.digitalocean.com/community/tutorial_collections/how-to-install-discourse)). Which one of the two is correct? Thanks in advance.

Discourse works fine in 1GB Digital Ocean droplets as our installer will create a swapfile for you. Digital Ocean would prefer users to not use swapfiles so they will recommend a larger server.
