# New custom field types: forum topic

New custom field type: **forum topic**

To enter value in such a field, let users choose a forum topic, then display a clickable topic title on the user profile page.

Use-cases:

- personal topic page with company / organization news
- favorite topic
- ask-me-anything topic for organization representatives

This seems like an awfully specific set of use cases. Wouldn’t this be better off as a 3rd party plugin?

I mean, I could think of cases where I’d use it, but those cases wouldn’t even be really considered had I not read this post.

Field type URL, is a feature I support and has general use cases

Basically text that gets rendered as a link

Ah, yes. For some reason I had a very myoptic view of the idea. A generalized URL field definitely makes sense.
