New emoji ("smileys") in Discourse 1.0.1

(Silver Quettier) #1

My apologies if a similar topic was created before. I could not find it.

So, I updated to Discourse 1.0.1 yesterday morning (to the latest “test-passed” version at the time), and among other things, I noticed that the emoji changed.

The old ones or the new ones being better is not really subject to public debate, as it’s a matter of personal preference, but let’s just say I now have a few users gathering in my street with pitchforks, and I think their number grows.

  • Can admins select a different emoji package?
  • If not, what would be required to offer that possibility?

Fifth from the top of the list in the UX Latest Category

The previous emoji have unclear licenses. The new ones are explicitly open source.

Selection is a good idea, but the previous default was unsafe.

You can now select from four Emoji families, and even add your own!
