New users can't upload images?

(Brian Harris) #1

I am hosting a Discourse instance. I tried uploading an image and it said new users cannot upload images. Two questions

  1. When does a user become not a new user anymore?
  2. Can I change the default trust level so that new users can upload pics right away?

Can't find 'newuser_max_images'

This thread might answer your first question:

And look for the newuser_max_images setting, it’s 0 by default. Change it to whatever you like.

Cool! I set newuser_max_images to 1. Thanks

You can also use another admin setting to set all default new users to trust level 1 (or higher). I do not recommend this however.

I see that this setting newuser_max_images is described as “How many images a new user can add to a post.”

Will changing this also allow a new user to upload an avatar image? I really don’t want new users adding images to posts, but I would like them to be able to upload an image for their avatar before posting.

No, this setting has nothing to do with locally uploaded avatars. All users can upload an avatar as long as the allow_uploaded_avatars setting is enabled.

We now default this setting to 1 so new users are allowed to upload one image.

And even another site setting where you can set how many images a new user can add to a post (1 by default), search for newuser max images.
