# Notification icon not showing for topic replies

Is there any reason why notifications would not be sent?  
I have tested by replying to topics between 2 users, however no notification alerts are sent.  
Only shows topic update alert/highlight in front page list.

However, nothing shows on dropdown user menu:

Notifications are sent according to the selected tracking level for the user and topic:

If you repeat your tests with notification levels set to “watching”, does it notify the users as you are expecting?

Also note that there is a very big conceptual difference between a reply to a _topic_ (pressing reply button at the bottom or right side of the topic) and a reply to a _specific post_ (quoting a post, pressing reply button on a post) or a _specific person_ (a `@username` mention).
