Notifying members when a Tracked or Watched topic is solved

When a member of your community is Tracking or Watching a topic in a support category (using the Discourse Solved plugin), they will receive a notification when that topic is marked as solved. This makes it easier for members to get answers to questions without having to check in on the topic manually or create a duplicate question topic.

The member who marks the solution will not receive this notification.

We’ve also updated the descriptions from Tracking and Watching in these topics, so members know what to expect:

If you don’t want to be notified when a topic that you’re Tracking or Watching is solved, you can disable this in your notification preferences:

Thank you for the explanation of this new/changed notification!

I have a question or maybe a bug report on this new feature. I am a regular in a forum that is running the Discourse version v2026.4.0-latest where it seems this feature was introduced.
If I disable this notification I even don’t get notifications for post of me that are marked as solution by other users. In former versions I got notifications for posts from me that got marked as solution.
So my question: is it by purpose that also my own solution posts don’t get notified to me any more if I disable this or is this a bug? Or is there any chance to have two possibilities for a notification, once for my own solution posts and second like it is now?
Thanks in advance!

I’ve gotten a lot of negative feedback about this recently from people who want to see when they, themselves get a best answer, but not when someone else does, so they can’t just turn it off.

Also, I have reports that people who are watching the first post only are getting notifications even though that isn’t a first post, and also even if they just read the post and are not watching it.

Some of them may be overlooking a certain setting… not saying all of the self-reporting is necessarily accurate… but it does seem like there should be a way to go back to the old way where they only got notified for their own best answers.

Not everything you read is in pursuit of an answer, especially on our site. They are looking to see if they can help, and so unless it is about their own answer, it is arguably unproductive/unhelpful to get those notifications.

I’ve missed that too. Right now, I’ve turned off notifications. Getting notified about every solution in a topic I’ve read was definitely too noisy. I’d rather do without even the few notifications that let me know I was able to help someone. If I deliberately set a topic to watching, notifications about solutions still make sense to me. Because then I obviously have a strong interest in the topic. But I track a lot of topics because it happens automatically as I read. And I like this default setting and would rather not change it.

For me, solved notifications would only be a good option for my own posts and the topics I’m watching. As long as topics I am tracking are also included, I’ll keep them disabled, even if it’s a shame.
