Ho controllato il commit, l’ho installato. Ma penso che ci sia un errore lì.

`return 301 https://${DISCOURSE_HOSTNAME}$request_uri;`  
dovrebbe essere  
`return 301 https://${DISCOURSE_HOSTNAME}\\$request_uri;`  
Per favore, correggimi se sbaglio.
