If users can’t see what the community is posting it may not attract them to sign up. Have you had a look at the [Gated Topics in Category](https://meta.discourse.org/t/gated-topics-in-category/225454) theme component? This allows the user to ‘preview’ the topic but has to signup to continue reading. However, as it is a theme component you can get around this via [safe mode](https://meta.discourse.org/t/53504?silent=true) but I believe that unchecking the `Enable safe mode` site setting disables it for users.
