Pasting a Username into the Group member fields

(Peter N Lewis) #1

If I open the Admin panel, then the Groups pane, select a group, then click where it says “add users” and paste in a username, the popup selector appears but it does not include the name I pasted in (I suspect it includes names starting with V (Command-V)). If I press return, the randomly named V person will be selected, not the valid username I pasted in. If I delete the username I pasted in, it deletes the preceding user!

This is all in Safari/Mac with Discourse 1.1.3

I remember an existing issue on this, pasting in having this issue.

I’ve noticed while copy-pasting that (at least some) inputs don’t “trim” leading/trailing whitespace.
Might that be what happened?

No, leading/trailing white space is not the issue (I checked by copying a few characters from the middle of a word, the same thing happens. For example, I pasted “ffect” and this is the result.

If I click and type an “f” I get a different result.

If I click and type a “v” I get the same listing.

So I’m pretty sure it is seeing the “V” in “Command-V” and doing the wrong thing based on that.

Indeed, if instead of pressing Command-V, I select Paste from the Edit menu, no display appear. And even if I have pasted in a valid username, I cannot press return, nothing happens.

And again, if I delete the text it deletes the preceding username!

The UI these days forces you to click Add so it is not longer an issue.
