People replies to the email notifications

Some people tends to not understand that they receive a “notification” and that they should click on the link before answering… Rather than, they reply to the email… I’m so bored when it happens. It’s relatively rare, one time per week but still is annoying…

I thought to create a fake email adresse so people get delivery email error when they do that but it seems the email adresse has to be a real one for the notification.

The from: email address used when sending all essential system emails. The domain specified here must have SPF, DKIM and reverse PTR records set correctly for email to arrive.

So how can we avoid that ?

You can use noreply@valid-domain.com, that’s a valid notification source email.

Why not just setup reply by email?

(Matthieu) #4

Is this always valid even if we did not setup this email alias ?

I did it, at least a part …

Just use no-reply@example.com … if you don’t set up an email there they will get

Delivery to the following recipient failed permanently:

     no-reply@example.com

Technical details of permanent failure:
Google tried to deliver your message, but it was rejected by the server for the recipient domain example.org

You can set up an auto-responder to do something nicer, e.g. here is info@discourse.org

Thanks for writing!

Unfortunately, this address is not monitored, so nobody can respond to your email.

If you'd like to have a discussion, great! That's what we do at Discourse:

And of course general information on the Discourse project is always available at http://www.discourse.org.

you are going to need to do more than that, we have guides for this you know.

I just did it following this instructions:

We will see how it’s going …

I recommend setting this stuff up with Zoho, it’s free and you can use it with Discourse. With that you can just add zoho to your domain’s zone and you can have a reply@yourdomain.com, instead of some gmail adress.
