# Pinning and categories

Is there a way to make a post only visible as a pinned post in the subcategory without it showing up in the parent category? Not sure if it’s making sense.

I’m including a screenshot below.

Will the new one appear in the parent category by default?

When you create a category, it comes with its own topic that is pinned and has filler text. This topic does not show up on the list of latest.

But any new topics created in the category are like any other topics – you can pin it and it shows up as new.

In Category settings you can set topics not to populate in the parent category

The 2 highlighted do not show subcategory topics.
