Is there a plugin where I can charge for new members? Or charge for file downloads?

See the [patreon plugin](https://meta.discourse.org/t/discourse-patreon-integration/44366). There are a couple other options if you search. Some people use a WordPress member manager and then contrive to sync membership via SSO and/or API calls.
