Hi there,
Let’s say I have a flourishing forum at discourse.example.com and I also have a nice shortened domain like link.io. Is it possible to configure discourse to use the shortened domain for shareable hyperlinks?
Thanks for the great software!
The discussion revolves around configuring shareable hyperlinks with a different domain in Discourse. binarymason initially asked if it’s possible to use a shortened domain for shareable links. sam replied that the actual feature required is automatic integration of a custom link shortener, which would allow users to share links with a custom domain.
binarymason agreed with sam and suggested recategorizing the topic as a feature request. nekodroid expressed interest in the feature and jimkleiber elaborated on the desired functionality, including customizable slugs, multiple short domains, and automatic link shortening. While the additional features may be complex to implement, having an automatic shortener would still be appreciated.

Not at the moment, but I feel like if you are going for shortened links under the
icon you would probably want to go all the way.

Could be something like:

So the actual feature you would want is automatic integration of a custom link shortener.
Yeah, now that you mention it, you’re right. A custom link shortener is what I’m asking. Obviously not necessary, but it would be super cool, especially since a lot of the links on subdomains can get rather lengthy.
Because this now smells like a feature request, would you like me to recategorize this topic under Contribute > Feature?
I was planning on opening a thread about suggesting this exact feature, but saw that one actually existed.
How’s the project doing? ![]()
I’d really love to have this here ![]()
I would love this feature, especially if I could:
Also customize the slug that comes after the domain, eg, to.example.com/ep1 and even better if I can customize it with slashes, to.example.com/show/ep1
Have multiple different short domains, eg, to.example.com and test.com both link to the same forum page.
That being said, I imagine both of those may be above and beyond and if it can just be an automatic shortener, to.discourse.org/hwu79 then I’d probably still appreciate it…although I’d love the two options above ![]()
