Poste.IO mailserver, 535 PLAIN authentication failed for discourse.nixium.com - auth failure (100)

Where do I see the logs in Discourse to diagnose this issue further. This user works perfectly on my computers mail app so I don’t understand why these settings are failing on Discourse.

  ## TODO: The mailserver this Discourse instance will use
  DISCOURSE_SMTP_ADDRESS: mail.nixium.com
  DISCOURSE_SMTP_PORT: 587
  DISCOURSE_SMTP_USER_NAME: discourse@nixium.com
  DISCOURSE_SMTP_PASSWORD: REDACTED
  DISCOURSE_SMTP_ENABLE_START_TLS: true

Its been 4 days can there be any kind of reasonably useful response here this is fairly time sensitive.

Refer to the email troubleshooting topic in #howto

(Kimberly Boynton) #4

Did you ever resolve this. I am having issues with auth on poste.io too for discourse.

(Matt Palmer) #5

Have you referred to the email troubleshooting topic in #howto?

(chamunks) #6

No I just gave up after posting logs and not getting really any help. I figured I might revisit it at some point.

I suggest going to Discourse Install self-host your own Civilized Discussion Community and getting a $99 install of Discourse – with email – that’s guaranteed to work.

Depends how much your time is worth, etc.

For the most part I can and have done the discourse side of it all this question was wondering why there wasn’t better feedback at the time for using that mail server in a docker container.

Also wonderful as always to see you still responding directly to your users.
