Posting Links as "Topics"

(OMGEDSON) #1

Hi there!

Community of Aviation Enthusiasts in process of moving to Discourse from Social Engine Cloud.

One of the things we love about SE is the fact that a user can quickly share a “story” found on another site by posting a link ala reddit.

Any chance of mimicking that functionality? ** Example:**

I’d like to share a new link containing info with the community:

ON SocialEngine you paste the link and it pulls a preview image as well as a summary of text: http://www.theskylounge.tv/post/4635194/just-flight-dh-104-dove-devon

On Discourse I have to manually type a title, paste a link and it does not pull an image… a very different experience

Any ideas? Thoughts?

You need to add justflight.com to your onebox domains whitelist and then it will display as

Whoa this is amazing! I’ve never had to whitelist every domain, can you quick brief what onebox does if you have a moment? Also I may be shooting myself in the foot here, but is there a way to whitelist all domains?

No, there isn’t a way to whitelist all domains, but simply put onebox takes the OpenGraph and oEmbed standards and processes them in a more user-friendly way. So any site, if you visit it and view its source, if it has references og: in a meta tag, it will onebox by whitelisting it.

Thanks, I went ahead and whitelisted as recommended, it does show that way in the preview but not in the full post.

You may need to rebuild it. Wrench Icon on the Post, then Rebuild HTML.

The URL may also need a cachebreaker because the URL can be cached on the server. Or just pick a different URL from the same site…
