# Posting new topic as unlisted still triggers email notifications

Using 3.5.1. I created a post and while editing it I chose the “unlisted” option (from the + menu, Toggle Unlisted), so that when it was posted it was already unlisted. I did so precisely because i didn’t want email notifications to be sent to those who follow that category for new topics. However, it did send notifications to everyone.
I believe this is a bug, but if it’s intended behavior then can I disable it (just for unlisted topics, obviously) and what’s the rationale behind it?

Unlisting is not meant to block notifications

Ok I understand it’s intended, but i don’t understand the rationale. Surely, if people can’t see it in the topics list, why should they be notified about its creation?
