Private Forum - Groups only

(Geoff Forster) #1

Hi I wondered if it would be possible to set up a number of groups with just one client and admin, they’ll only be able to read and write to their own forum.

So no community at all.

All clients unaware of each other, no member’s list.

No leakage in newsletters/emails.

You can uncheck enable user directory

Same with activity summaries: disable digest emails.

You may also be interested in Secure email mode, but I think the feature is still in development.

Following on @erlend_sh, you would create a group for each user, or group of users and a category that only that group can see.

I’ve done exactly what @pfaffman suggests above for my business - works flawlessly.

  1. Create a group for your user.
  2. Create a category and lock it down to admin
  3. Save category and then lock it down to that new group and remove admin. (New empty group doesn’t show immediately).
  4. Invite user and choose the option to add user to the new group when they join.
  5. Profit!

Thanks for the information and confirmation.

I thought admin’s will always have some level of access to things. What kind of things does this last step accomplish?

Well there’s no need to lock the category to admin after it’s locked to the new group.

Locking it to admin temporarily makes sure nobody can see the category that shouldn’t.
