# Problem adding gif files

Hi all.
Sometimes when you try to add a gif file to a topic, an error appears stating that the file is too large.
But this is not true, because the file size, for example, is 18mb and the maximum allowed size is 40mb.
What could be the problem?

There are two levels to uploaded files:
- the system setting
- [the nginx configuration](https://meta.discourse.org/t/image-uploading-size-show-exceeding-though-its-less/134637/4)
Check both.
