This isn’t a Discourse issue, but an OS issue. There are many sites describing how to upgrade your OS.

My recommendation is to create a new VM with a new OS and then [Move a Discourse site to another VPS with rsync](https://meta.discourse.org/t/move-a-discourse-site-to-another-vps-with-rsync/43812)
