Question about group mentions in a private category

I have a private category that is set to Admin only. It is where I create weekly announcements or other posts that I want to schedule. I will publish the topic in there, and then use the “Set topic timer” to publish when it is time.

Here is my question: I have a post that I want to schedule. I need to be able to mention a specific group in this post to make sure the members see it when published. If I mention the group and then publish to the private category, will they get notified now? Also, will they get notified once it is published in the correct category?

I do not think so. A workaround is to edit the post after it is published and add the group mention.

Well that is unfortunate. I guess I’ll just leave the topic as a draft and publish manually.

Are there other topics in that category? I wonder if it would help if members of the group were watching the private category by default.

Watching first post notifications usually work for scheduled publishing (I think there is an exception if Disable category edit notifications is enabled)
