Quoting within a list is kind of broken

- [quote]But if I surround with [quote] tags it does.[/quote]
  • A list with a space between each point.

  • The arrow quoting doesn’t work.

Welcome to the thrilling world of Markdown, where nobody can actually tell you how things are supposed to work!

Because… we don’t know! It’s unclear if this even should work, e.g. should this produce a blockquote inside a list?

- hello
- > this is a quote
- there

Let’s ask all the existing implementations, shall we?

http://johnmacfarlane.net/babelmark2/?normalize=1&text=-+hello -+>+this+is+a+quote -+there

  • 8 implementations, including the original Perl code (last public release: 2004, yep, a decade ago) say it shouldn’t work.

  • 15 implementations say it should work.

Pick your poison.

Inline quote was never really supported, so I am closing this as fixed. I do need to cleanup the failure mode a bit.
