Thanks for raising this Eric, this has also been raised earlier in [Add richer authentication support for POP3](https://meta.discourse.org/t/add-richer-authentication-support-for-pop3/219340) . We need to schedule in this work this year, otherwise these the POP3 polling as well as eventually [SMTP support for group inboxes](https://meta.discourse.org/t/smtp-support-for-group-inboxes/195572)
