# Request: easy category deletion

I need to delete a category. I figured I’d have to clean it out first, but thought I’d start by checking the category editing UI.
Much to my surprise and delight, there was a Delete button there & active. “Maybe it’ll ask me where to move everything to” I thought. “Worth a shot.”
Of course that didn’t work. I got an error saying my category was non-empty. 🤷♀️
I would have been quite pleased however to have either
- **Dialog**
This category is not empty. Choose the category to move its posts to
^ Dropdown
- **Confirm**
This sub-category is not empty. Its posts will be moved to [parent].

I like that idea!
This isn’t quite what you are asking for, but you can speed up the process of moving a category’s topics to a new category by bulk selecting the topics from the category’s topic list:
Click the “Select All” button that appears, then click the topic list’s admin wrench. Select the “Set Category” option from the bulk actions modal:
For sites on our hosting, if you have a huge number of topics that need to be moved from a category, get in touch with our support team. We can give you a hand moving the topics out of the category.
