# Restoring the search icon in the top bar

How can I put the search back into the magnifying glass in the top bar?

I’ve been looking for `banner` and `search` in the settings, but meh… Cannot find it again. I find the banner taking way too much precious space on top.

I can only find `welcome_banner_location`:

I think the search icon is hidden when the welcome banner is visible.

The settings to disable the welcome banner and adjust the search experience are now [themeable site settings](https://meta.discourse.org/t/themeable-site-settings-are-now-available/374232). You find them when you edit your theme at `/admin/customize/themes` and at `/admin/config/theme-site-settings`

But Meta has both the icon in the header and the Welcome Banner? Did they enable it and select ‘Search icon near profile avatar’ \[1\]?

But Meta doesn’t use the core banner. When you use [safe mode](https://meta.discourse.org/t/53504?silent=true), you can see that banner and how it hides the search icon.
