Running Discourse on Windows 7 64 bit

(fortm) #1

I downloaded latest vagrant box discourse-0.9.9.15.box , installed Virtual Box 4.3.20 .

But, when I am doing “bundle exec rails s” , from log I don’t see any issues but on localhost -
localhost:4000 keeps on loading and does not shows the first page.

I am running it behind firewall but got past bundle install using export http_proxy and https_proxy.

Any help ?

Wait for it. It takes 10 mins for inital load of Discourse on my laptop (wins 8.1 64 bit).

For better result, you can use *nix OS

@thangngoc89, I have been waiting for half an hour now. It goes till here and then loader is getting in infinite loop.

It finally loads giving this error in log -

clicking a post takes about 15 seconds to open however

@thangngoc89 , Is it downloading any data for each page request from internet ?
I am setting up for local DEV

(Khoa Nguyen) #6

No. You can search in this forum for further infomation about vagrant and windows

(Blake Erickson) #7

I’m on a windows box now and didn’t have any luck with running Discourse in Vagrant (I don’t think it is kept up to date).

I used virtual box and installed an Ubuntu machine for development. I had much better luck using Ubuntu 14.04.2 instead of 14.10.

(Mittineague) #8

Ah, the old “valid membername” glitch.
Try running these 2 lines in your Rails console (without the line wraps)

User.where(id: 11).update_all(username: 'pekka_gaiser', name: 'pekka_gaiser', username_lower: 'pekka_gaiser')
User.where(id: 15).update_all(username: 'sam_saffron', name: 'sam_saffron', username_lower: 'sam_saffron')

Also, I’ve found that using Chrome instead of Firefox is much quicker for reasons unknown to me

(Jeff Atwood) #9

User names with periods were removed in 2013, so that is very old data you are looking at.

(Kane York) #10

Yes, and it’s the data in the Vagrant image…
