SEO - Google optimisation through webmaster

(Ben Hodgson) #1

Hi guys,

So I’m used to working with the apache web server layout, but this is new to me!

I’d like to optimize my community by complying with Google’s checklist on google/webmasters.
This includes:

  • Adding a site map

  • Providing structured data by adding HTML markup to my site’s pages

If anyone has already done this, or is able to help me with this - I’d appreciate it!

One last thing… I also want to edit the .htaccess file, if there is one! I want to make it so that my site complies with SSL connections, so that chrome stops moaning at potential visitors and scaring them away due to “not being secure”.

Cheers, people!

Please be more specific.

There isn’t a .htaccess file, but you can get all SSL with this:

Thank you!! I’ll work through this, hopefully it’ll be much more inviting afterwards!

I’m not too sure what this means either, it’s googles’ words to try and describe making “Rich Snippets” through markup. The link they sent refered me to Introduction to Structured Data  |  Search  |  Google Developers

Looks like this:

Discourse would need headline and image tags.

This type of work is done on Discourse itself (if needed), and after merged into the product, you get the functionality on updates automatically.

Hmm this is interesting, @techapj can you look into adding headline and image if sensible here?

Is this still relevant?
