Hello there and welcome here! In this training, you’ll learn the basics of setting up a Discourse instance.
If you are new to this training, be sure to have read Discourse Support Training Program to understand how this training program works. Feel free to reply to this topic to ask questions if anything is unclear.
This will focus on installing Discourse and configuring it to allow anyone to be able to access your Discourse community from a URL/link, sign up and log in to create a topic, and get email notifications if someone replies to their topic.
Some of the steps in this guide mirror those of the official install guide, so for the steps in this guide, do only the step linked to and not subsequent ones.
Yes, you may already have a Discourse site or have set up a couple already. The goal of setting this new one up is so you have a test site to use in checking bugs, support questions, and feedback suggestions as they are shared. At Discourse (the company) this is what we all use to support the community. We each have one or multiple test sites and local instances of Discourse that we use daily and run tests on when we see support questions or need to confirm a bug or test a new feature.
Feel free to reply to this topic to ask questions if anything is unclear, we will clean replies from time to time to keep the topic clean.
Your tasks should you choose to accept them are below, you’ll share a link to your newly installed Discourse instance along with a reply of your ticked-off tasks, to mark this as completed.
If you’ve already done this set of tasks within the last 6 months, feel free to reply with all tasks ticked and a note mentioning this.
Don’t click the checkboxes in this main post, make a copy of the following task lists into a new reply by Use template as reply button! If you do this, you can check off the items in your reply as you complete them.
