Hi Jay,
Can I set a category NEWS as subscription, and organize all paid subscribers into a Group? Is this exactly the function of category and group?

Do you mean a subscription in the sense of something that people pay for with something lke the [Discourse Subscriptions](https://meta.discourse.org/t/discourse-subscriptions/140818)?
Yes, you can add people who paid to a group, which then controls access to the NEWS category.
You could also have them watch the category so that they were emailed/notified when something got posted in that category (which would be “subscribed” like “subscribed to a mailing list”).

Yes, I mean the usage of Discourse Subscription. Now I know how to use the category and group.
If I send emails to subscribers, can the emails contain Excel or PDF attachments?

I believe that they will be links to the uploaded files in Discourse, not attached files in the emails.
