Shared Drafts: Allow staff to collaborate on posts before publishing

Bit of a response much later in terms of years.

We are trying to schedule posts using this feature, but we are getting the following issues:

  • When you set a topic timer to schedule into a category, while it does post it there, it remains as a ‘Shared Draft’ and is not visible to anyone unless you click that big publish button.

  • If we don’t use shared drafts, and instead schedule a topic published into a private category, while it does schedule correctly and post, plugins such as Chat Integration will not pick up the new topic and push it into webhooks on Discord announcements channel as an example.

Any solutions to these?

You can’t. You can guide them to use private messages sending to themselves, and when they are then copy&paste to real post.

And still I think that is really low quality solution for so many reasons, but as I’ve told it comes limits of technical solutions of Discourse.

Out there is so many request to get ability of real drafts.

Is there a way to have the shared draft as the default instead of a creating a new topic?

We have this category set as the shared draft category, but if the user accidentally create a standard topic instead of the draft, these don’t appear:

Hello, I’m just starting to learn about this feature. I noticed in the discussion above that it was mentioned that even non-Shared Draft Topics also have the issue of being deleted after 180 days, and your screenshot indeed shows two options: Create New Topic / Shared Draft. Does this indicate that this issue has already been resolved? Because I didn’t see anyone explicitly mention this change in the discussion above. Or is this a behavior that has existed from the beginning: in categories where Shared Draft is enabled, all topics will be deleted after 180 days, but even in such a Draft category with a scheduled deletion rule, users are not restricted from creating only Drafts? If so, the purpose of specifically creating a non-Draft Topic that will be deleted after 180 days and will not be published to other categories seems somewhat unclear.
