I’ve been looking at how to use automation to steer the desired member behaviour. As a small mod team on a larger site new members rarely seem to read guidelines and tend to get annoyed when “the personal touch” is used to remind them. Automation creates a bit of an air-gap. The current issue is AI generated content or AI processed posts which dramatically changes the tone of a site. Ironically, I have had good success using Discourse’s AI agents and agent based triage automations to proof original posts of new members for undesired content and auto-flag. Automation of the awful tasks that grind away at a small mod team is a great way to communicate templated messaging and encourage the right behaviour while retaining your sanity.
