# Some badges are not granted even though they should be

In our community, we observe that some first steps badges are not granted even though they should be. We observe this at first edit, first link, first mention and first like in particular.
Maybe they are only counted in starting posts, and not in replies?

I have never read about badges requiring the action to be performed on/in the first post.
Is the category the posts are in public?

Oh this might very well be it. At the moment, quite a significant part of our activity is non-public.

Yeah, by design badges are only granted on public info. You can create badge by hand and assign to members regardless of posting, but that can get tedious.
