# Staged user doesn't get notified for replies in topics they created by mail?

Case:
- New user mails to a category, new topic is created
- A known user replies
- Nothing else happens
Normally, a known user would have received a notification, but this is a new/staged user. Should they get a notification?
This could be handy for support systems.

Well, a staged user can’t do that. Unless you mean that I set that category to be watched by default.

Sorry, I misread. I thought you wanted a notification whenever a user replied to a topic created by a staged user.
If it’s happening, then it’s a bug since staged users should always be watching the topics they created.
I’ll have a look tomorrow.

Now that [email posts from non-users](https://meta.discourse.org/t/non-users-cant-post-by-email-even-with-accept-emails-from-anonymous-users-with-no-accounts-checked/39890) is working for me again, after some test posts I can also confirm that staged users are not notified of replies to the topic they created. Running v1.5.0.beta11 +9.

Turns out, it was only happening on secured 🔒 categories
