# Subscription emails should carry more context in message body

Sometimes when I receive notification emails, I can’t remember why. Even though the context is all in the message subject, some additional info would be nice.
Possibly add to the message footer, after the “To respond…” line, something like:
```
You received this message because you are subscribed to email notifications for the "XYZ" category at Meta Discourse.
```

This is a great idea, and although notifications are technically likely considered “transactional” and exempt from it, would help align Discourse notifications with the US CAN-SPAM Act.

Here’s some of the reasons that I can think of:

> You received this message because you are receiving emails for every post.
> You received this message because it was a direct reply to you.
> You received this message because it mentioned your name.

We now support customizable e-mail templates:
