# Supported file extensions

hi all,  
We are looking into which files our users may want to share on our instance. Some could be a malware nightmare!

Are there any file extensions or uploads that aren’t supported on a hosted plan?

Hi Emma,  
No – you have full control over which file extensions you allow on your own instance. `/admin/site_settings/category/files`

There is a limit to how much storage space you have on a hosted plan though so bear that in mind.

Sure – by upgrading your plan. You can see the limits [here](https://discourse.org/pricing).

(Bear in mind that Discourse isn’t designed as a file storage system so it is generally a good idea to educate your members to save large files elsewhere and link to them.)
