# Suspend as way to expire membership

Continuing the discussion from [Suspend Indefinitely](https://meta.discourse.org/t/suspend-indefinitely/31404):

If a paid user lets their membership expire, they could be out for 10 minutes or forever. It doesn’t make sense to put some specific date down when they’ll be back.

And in the original thread we saw a few other use cases for an indefinite suspension.

Supporting a `0` value for suspension length, and adding a different suspension message for that indefinite case, would address the needs I see completely.

Would you accept a PR that did this?

No, we would not. Just suspend for whatever time you feel is appropriate.

What about creating a group (like “expired membership”) and setting the group security to not see any categories? Would that work?
