# Switch left sidebar to the top?

Is it possible to create a plugin or CSS user code to move the sidebar from left to the top?

There is a site setting called **Navigation menu** that can be changed from “Sidebar” to “Header dropdown”.
Does that do what you’re looking for?

Yeah, exactly! Is that something a regular user can choose, or does an admin have to enable the feature? Does it apply to the whole site when enabled?

That’s an admin setting for the whole site. Users don’t have an option to flip it themselves.

On one site that uses the dropdown menu, while I prefer the sidebar, I use the query parameter that you can use for testing. It works quite well because I usually don’t close the tab with that forum. I also added a link with that parameter into the navigation menu. So, if the forum “forgets” that I want to test the sidebar, I simply open the link from the menu in a new tab, and then I have the sidebar again.
