# Tag synonym notifications

Seems if I am watching a tag and this tag is set as a synonym of another tag (which makes the other tag primary) I no longer receive email notifications for the tag.  
Is this by intention or a bug?

I think you’d want to watch the “official” tag not the synonym? 🤔

Yes, sure, but if I’m an ordinary user I might not know:

- that the tag was made a synonym (and is not official any more)
- that I need to start watching the new tag instead
