Yes this is the solution I would go for. PMs are meant to be low volume.

Regardless, the rollup support I talked about in January 2014 was implemented months ago. Multiple replies on PMs and regular posts are in fact rolled up to a number now today and have been for a while. So what you’re bringing up here is a different topic and should be split.
