is there a directory that contains discourse theme, that we can use or extend etc.

No, there is no ‘theme’ directory. You can extend the existing theme through CSS via the admin panel. Additionally, you can override the hbs files if you wanted to modify the actual html portion of the design.

We are using the #plugin:theme category to keep track of existing themes.
