Threaded discussion is ultimately too complex to survive on the public Internet?

That’s the problem with the current interface: expecting moderators to observe every conversation, then decide when (/whether) to separate a discussion into a new thread is very difficult, and, when it even occurs, prone to disagreement. With threaded discussion, this problem doesn’t exist; at all!
